An imaginative practice that shares tea with a character in the book.

Sharing Tea-

Follow the 6 step instructions here online or print the bookmark instructions below to have on hand while reading together.

  1. Prepare

Complete both parts; a “Preparation for Caregiver/Parent” and a “Preparation Together” practice. View instructions on “Prepare” page.

  2. Read

Make a pot of a favorite tea to share. While it steeps, read the book.

  3. Mindful Moment

After reading the book, quiet the body and take a few breaths together. Pour and pass out the tea. Bring your senses to the cup of tea and take a few sips. Think and ask which character might be in need a cup of tea. (Take a minute or two to share the character and why.) Close eyes and imagine sharing the tea with a character. (Take a minute to imagine.)

  4. Share

Then share, what was it like to share tea? Is there someone in your life who could benefit from sharing tea with? What can this remind us to do for ourselves and others?

  5. Offer

Offer gratitude for sharing in practice. You may choose to also pour the tea outside and return the herbs and water to Earth. Also see “Offer” page.

  6. Rest

Let go of the practice in a way that feels right to each child in the moment. View “Rest” page.

Adaptation

Another way to include sharing tea is to read the book, pick a character, and then choose specific herbs to make tea with that character in mind.

You have completed a sacred reading practice!
