The traditional Buddhist three-fold logic for clear understanding and progress towards enlightenment

Ground, Path, Fruition-

Follow the 6 step instructions here online or print the bookmark instructions below to have on hand while reading together.

  1. Prepare

Complete both parts; a “Preparation for Caregiver/Parent” and a “Preparation Together” practice. View instructions on “Prepare” page.

  2. Read

    Read the story.

  3. Mindful Moment

Collectively decide on one challenge, conflict, or problem in the story.

    (Take three intentional breaths together.)

Share the ground of the challenge. The ground is the factual starting point of the challenge.

    (Rest quietly for a minute.)

Next share the path. The path is how the challenge unfolded or the decisions/steps the characters took.

    (Rest quietly for a minute.)

Finally share the fruition. The fruition is what happened, the result of the challenge.

    (Rest quietly for a minute.)

  4. Share

Take some time to discuss. How did the characters react? Can we imagine another path to take? What would change?

  5. Offer

Practice sending well wishes for a peaceful path for all characters in the book. Share three breaths together and offer gratitude for sharing in practice.

    Also view “Offer” page.

  6. Rest

Let go of the practice in a way that feels right to each child in the moment. View “Rest” page.

Adaptations

Feel free to explore and adapt the practice to you and your child’s needs. One fun adaptation for the “Mindful Moment” step for Ground, Path, Fruition could be drawing a map and different paths the character could take.

Mindfulness does not need to be quiet and still. It can meet you and child where they are at.

You have completed a sacred reading practice!
