This practice invites us to care for and receive from nature.

Resting with Earth-

Follow the 6 step instructions here online or print the bookmark instructions below to have on hand while reading together.

  1. Prepare

Complete both parts; a “Preparation for Caregiver/Parent” and a “Preparation Together” practice. View instructions on “Prepare” page.

  2. Read

Take the chosen story on a walk outside. Chose an inviting spot to read and rest outside. Read the story.

  3. Mindful Moment

After reading, invite everyone to take a moment to find a comfortable spot and rest with Earth. When ready, think about the parts on the body that meet the Earth and allow the Earth to hold up and support the body. (Give a moment for the children to trust, let go, and allow the Earth to hold and support them). Bring the story to mind.

  4. Share

Invite the children to wonder about bringing rest to the story. What does rest look like or what would rest look like in this story? (Give some sharing time). What can we learn from this message in our own lives? (Give time for sharing).

  5. Offer

Try offering a message of shared trust and support between yourself and the Earth through creating a nature art mandala.

  6. Rest

Let go of the practice in a way that feels right to each child in the moment. View “Rest” page.
